Not Just Atoms

Of course, there are many atoms, even very many.* But what you may not know is that they only represent the tiniest part of the universe, for sure! Only 5% of the universe is composed of atoms. For the rest, we talk about black matter and dark energy. In fact, a few years ago, a cosmologist who had been studying the sky for some time already, discovered that the universe was made up of too few atoms to be able to hold itself all together (unlike earth, which has a nucleus that is big enough to hold together all the matter that it is made of.)  So he announced that another mass weighed in on the scale of the universe. Since they did not know this mass, scientists called it black matter. The problem is that the universe is constantly expanding and nothing seems to be stopping it for the moment. But how is it that black matter does not keep everything in a tidy compact line? Well, someone found out that the universe is probably made up of an energy that pushes everything away from each other. For the moment this energy is dominant, and that is why the universe is said to be in continual and probably eternal expansion!
But then, we still don’t now anything about the other 95% of the universe….
(Speaking of numbers : * some think there are 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000  atoms just in the visible part of the universe…)
